Biography
Sanctuary fuses the beautiful, melodic simplicity of Gregorian Chant with the new sounds of free improvisation and the rich colours of contemporary classical music, creating a plainsong for the 21st century.
Sanctuary’s combination of Cello, Pipe Organ and Bass Clarinet is unique, their sounds blending beautifully into a richly textured landscape. From the barest whisper to the most powerful crescendo Sanctuary freely explore their full sonic potential to create music that has a mystical, intense lyricism.
Sanctuary is Peter Togni, organ; Christoph Both, cello; and Jeff Reilly, bass clarinet. They are based at St. Mary’s Basilica, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
