Sir Edward Elgar, Henry Purcell
This album is another of Sir John Barbirolli’s definite contributions to British music. Elgar’s Enigma Variations is probably the most iconic work by a British composer, and has been recorded three times by Barbirolli: with this 1956 version, all are now digitally available! This recording also features a suite arranged and compiled by Barbirolli himself after famous Purcell tunes from King Arthur or Dido and Aeneas.
