Atlàntida can be regarded as the cursed work of Falla’s catalogue. The composer worked on this ambitious “scenic cantata”, celebrating Iberia from its antique legends to Columbus’ discoveries, for twenty years, leaving the work unfinished when he passed away. From the sketches left, his pupil Ernesto Halffter completed the score in 1962. Fifteen years later, the first studio recording was made by the iconic Spanish conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, which we release here in a digital version. This is still one of the very rare performances of this piece, and it is of course part of our beautiful Falla boxset, released recently.
