Aristide Cavaillé-Coll revolutionized organ building in mid-19th-century’s France. His instruments offered wider musical possibilities to composers, and particularly César Franck, who is inextricably bound to the 1859 organ of Saint-Clotilde in Paris. This album is one of the most praised collections of Franck’s organ works, from the beautiful Fantaisie to the ultimate Three Chorales, and features the great Marie-Claire Alain on one of her favourite instruments, the Cavaillé-Coll of the Men’s Abbey in Caen.
