Great traveler, associated with the most influent personalities of his times, most innovative keyboard player of his generation… many more superlatives could be used to describe the exceptional figure of Johann Jakob Froberger, whose major contributions were the formatting of the dance suite and the introduction in Germany of the stylus phantasticus. Gustav Leonhardt himself was among the first to bring his music to light in one of the earliest Froberger monographies, recorded in 1962 for our competitors. Eight years later, he recorded for Telefunken a splendid collection of toccatas, partitas and capriccios, both on harpsichord and on the beautiful organ of the church of Bennebroek.
