Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, with its witty and evocative music, lends itself well to parody and reimagining! Poet and author of children’s books Hiawyn Oram extended the original works with satirical texts that the famous King’s Singers could sing to introduce the movements, or sometimes to sing along with the music. The composer Carl Davis, who also conducts the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on this recording, teamed up with Oram to compose the choral parts.
This album also includes Fauré’s Pavane in its vocal version and choral arrangements of traditional songs collected by Joseph Canteloube in his native Auvergne.
