The Boston Camerata, Led successively by lutenist Joel Cohen and his spouse the soprano Anne Azéma, has established a fascinating discography by exploring rare repertoires of early music in witfully conceived programs, at crossroads of classical, popular traditions for Western and non-Western influences. Liberty Tree presents various tunes (hymns, ballads, marches…) that were famous during the early years of the United States, before the Civil War. Here given into original transcriptions and harmonizations from period sources, they shed light on little-known recess of the American musical soul.
