At a very young age, during a masterclass held by Paul van Kampen in Siena, Michel Corboz discovered the music of Claudio Monteverdi, an aesthetic shock that would determine his later career. He would become the fiercest and somehow the earliest advocate of Monteverdi’s music on stage and record, contributing to making the tutelar figure of the early baroque, then neglected, renowned among a large audience. This collection illustrates the refined intelligence Corboz had of this music, with notable excerpts from his two recordings of L’Orfeo, with the stellar Éric Tappy and Gino Quilico, but also wonders of the sacred music from the Vespro and the Selva morale.
