The Belgian violin virtuoso and composer Eugène Ysaÿe wrote his late masterpiece in 1932: a beautiful set of six sonatas for solo violin, each one dedicated to a famous contemporary violinist (Enesco, Szigeti, Thibaud…) Composed under the auspices of Bach and Paganini, and including folkloric elements, this underestimated summit of violin literature found in Frank Peter Zimmermann a fantastic advocate, emphasizing with style the filiation with Bach’s sonatas and partitas. This recording also includes two lovely pieces for violin and piano, featuring Edoardo Maria Strabbioli.
