The première of Wiener Blut in 1899 was a disaster and the theatre, even bankrupting the theatre. But after the initial failure of the piece, it was the Vienna flavour that ensured its lasting popularity, and by that token it was a decisive factor for the success of this 1976 production that it was conducted by an heir to the authentic Viennese Strauss tradition, Willi Boskovsky.
