Albinoni’s intermezzo Pimpinone, first performed as an interlude between the acts of his opera Astarto, has been revived in the 80s by Claudio Scimone after having been out of the limelight for decades. The story of Pimpinone, a dullard whose servant is leading around by the nose, closely reminds the later famous intermezzo La serva padrona by Pergolesi. On this stereotypical but yet funny libretto, Albinoni wrote a delightful music full of wit, one of the very rare stage works he composed whose score has fortunately not been lost.
