The rediscovery of early Italian baroque repertoire is one of the main legacies of Michel Corboz’ immensely rich career. Monteverdi of course holds a particular place in the trailblazing conductor’s discography, but Giacomo Carissimi’s renditions are also noteworthy as they revealed the genius of the oratorio pioneer. Recorded with the Gulbenkian choir and orchestra, featuring beautiful vocal soloists, this album includes four of the most remarkable pieces from the first master of the genre.
