A sequel to Alexandre Tharaud’s 2020 album of contemporary piano concertos, this release presents three recent, kaleidoscopic concertos, all composed specially for the multi-faceted French musician: Cara Bali Concerto by Thierry Pécou (born in France in 1965), Mare Marginis (nouvelle lune) by Ramon Lazkano (born in Spain in 1968) and Luz de lejos by Alex Nante (born in Argentina in 1992).
Tharaud is joined by three different orchestras and three different conductors: for the Pécou by the Orchestre national de Lyon and Jonathan Stockhammer; for the Lazkano by the WDR Sinfonieorchester and Sylvain Cambreling, and for the Nante by the Orchestre national de Lille and Emilia Hoving. “I don’t like museums, Tharaud has said, “I like works to be alive … That’s also our role, to push boundaries, to shake things up a bit.”
