Orchestra of the Plymouth Music Series
Here comes another band from Minnesota: the orchestra of the Plymouth Music Series, conducted by Philip Brunelle, is a true trailblazer of the Anglo-American repertoire. Together they recorded the first complete performance of Copland’s sole opera The Tender Land, a bittersweet tale about a traditional Midwest farm shaken by the arrival of two migrant workers. Copland composed a very evocative and direct music, as close to musical as to traditional opera, using folk elements, which this album (released for the first time in digital format) reveals the breathtaking beauty. The work is still extremely rare on record.
