Giaches de Wert
The rise of madrigal, a musical genre which appeared and grew in Italy through the 16th-century, is was greatly contributed to by Flemish composers, many of whom were employed by local princely courts. In particular, Giaches de Wert worked for a long time for the Gonzaga family of Mantua, where he composed many madrigals and was a major influence for Claudio Monteverdi. Stunning harmonic innovations, ever closer union between text and music… the artistry of de Wert is perfectly rendered in this performance of the seventh book of madrigals by the Consort of Musicke.
