Frederick Delius was a very original figure of British music: he started composing later in life, was mostly as self-taught man, had been deeply influenced by Afro-American music while he worked in the United States… Thanks to the unwavering support of his close friend Thomas Beecham, who became very soon aware of Delius’ genius and championed his music all along his career, he finally achieved recognition from the British audience. This late album recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, including the composer’s hits Brigg Fair and Florida Suite perfectly renders the magic and the unique color of Delius music.
