Aldo Ciccolini was a pioneer in recording the Années de pèlerinage, Franz Liszt’s magnum opus, outstanding crucible of pianistic innovations and emblematic work of early Romanticism. He was the earliest to record an almost comprehensive rendition (only the addendum Venezia and Napoli was missing) in the mid-1950s and made an even more beautiful rendition a few years later for the stereo remake. The supplement was at last to be recorded in 1968. These iconic performances by a true poet of the piano, sitting atop of the discography, are finally made available as a complete album.
