In his sophomore album, the pianist Georges Cziffra, himself highly skilled at transcribing and improvising after classical themes, pays homage to the great arranger Franz Liszt. This album includes various transcriptions and “paraphrases” after Liszt’s contemporaries – mostly opera pages by Wagner, Gounod, Auber or Verdi. This recording, a proof of the obvious filiation between the two pianists of Hungarian descent, also includes later recordings of arrangements of Chopin’s Polish Songs.
