Michel Béroff’s early career is inextricably linked to the music of Olivier Messiaen. The composer was the piano teacher of Béroff’s father, who then instilled in his son the passion of modern piano music. Aged only 11, he was able to perform the complete set of Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus, one of the most complex pieces of the piano repertoire! He would then win the first edition of the Messiaen competition, and start his discographic career for EMI in 1968 by recording the Quatuor pour la fin du temps.
Dating from 1978, this newly remastered album includes the youth Préludes and the fundamental Études de rythme, which have inspired a whole generation of avant-garde musicians after the War.
