We release as individual album Monteverdi’s third book of madrigals sung by the Consort of Musicke, great specialists of this repertoire who recorded the complete madrigals throughout their career.
In 1592, the young Claudio Monteverdi served the refined court of the Gonzaga family in Mantua along with Giaches de Wert, his elder who had a decisive influence on him (we released a few weeks ago a splendid recording of de Wert’s seventh book, by the same performers). This third book is still ingrained in the Renaissance style of which it marks the culmination, but its boldness announces the Baroque aesthetics, even more tangible in the fourth book composed ten years later.
