Gregorio Allegri, Josquin des Prez, Giovanni Pierluigi Da Palestrina, Cristóbal de Morales
Rome, as headquarters of the papacy and center of Christianity, was a key venue for composers, who came from all Europe to complement their training. In particular, being appointed at the choir of the pontifical chapel performing in the Sistine Chapel was a very sought-after situation. The four composers featured on this album of the Taverner Consort have all been part of it during their career, as maestro di cappella or simple chorister. The recording includes some of the finest Renaissance motets by Josquin, Palestrina and Morales, and the sublime Allegri’s Miserere.
