November 10th marks the 150th anniversary of French composer Henri Rabaud, a composer very popular back in his time, but who has now fallen a bit into neglect (which may have to do with his collaborationist behavior during Occupation). This album by Pierre Dervaux is one of the very rare monographies dedicated to this composer, demonstrating a keen sense of orchestration and climate in such pieces as the contemplative Églogue after Virgil, the virtuoso Divertissement, or the orientalist dances from his triumphal opéra-comique Mârouf, one of the greatest lyrical successes of 1914.
