Max Reger is celebrating his 150th birthday very soon, on March 19th. The great Joseph Keilberth was one of the most devoted champions of Reger’s music and put on record three major late works with the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg: the delicate Ballet-Suite after characters of the commedia dell’arte and the Hiller and Mozart Variations and Fugue that show Reger’s formal concerns and make him the worthy successor of Beethoven and Brahms.
