The Sacred Bridge. Jews & Christians in Medieval Europe

The Sacred Bridge is one of the most iconic programs of the Boston Camerata, highlighting songs from the Jewish communities in Provence and Medieval Spain. It also demonstrates the constant interdependency between composers from both traditions, with works from Jewish trouvères settled in Christian courts, comparison of psalms co-existing in Hebraic and Latin versions, and one of the earliest written scores known in the history of Jewish music: a fascinating eulogy of Moses by converted monk Obadiah who brought into the Jewish community the techniques of musical notation.
