Vernon Handley was one of the most devoted advocates of British music under the benevolent patronage of Sir Adrian Boult. His numerous recordings for EMI of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ music, either with the London Philharmonic Orchestra or the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, are standards of the discography. As part of Vaughan Williams’ 150th birthday year, we release this beautiful collection of pieces, some of which are digital premieres. It includes hits like The Wasps and The Lark Ascending as well as rarities like the variations on the folk tune Dives and Lazarus and the orchestral arrangement from the Prelude and Fugue, initially composed for the organ.
