At the end of 18th-century, the Stamitz dynasty was the kingpin of the Mannheim school, which ensured the transition between late Baroque and classicism, emphasizing melody rather that counterpoint and developing various orchestral innovations. In 1981, star flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal highlighted the flute concerto repertoire of theses composers, thus far neglected, with three cheerful works by the patriarch Johann and his sons Carl and Anton. He is accompanied by Raymond Leppard, also an early music trailblazer.
