Odile Bailleux, long-standing titular organist of the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, was among the first generation of historically informed performers at the organ, along with such figures as André Isoir and Michel Chapuis. A pupil of Helmut Walcha, she has been a close partner of Jean-Claude Malgoire, and despite her short discography, remains an important figure of early keyboard music. Her only solo recording for Erato was devoted to the music of Sevillian late Renaissance composer Francisco Correa de Arauxo, author of a voluminous treatise of organ music including many tientos, a selection of which are played on splendid instruments from Campos and Santanyí in Mallorca. Odile Bailleux, who passed away last month, would have turned 85 on December 30th.
