Lya De Barberiis
Born in 1904, Dallapiccola was the major avant-garde composer of his generation, his style having varied from neo-classical and post-expressionism to strict serialism which he embraced as an admirer of Arnold Schoenberg. His brief piano catalogue reflects this diversity, from the Sonata canonica inspired by Paganini’s Caprices to the severe dodecaphonic Quaderno musicale di Annalibera, dedicated to his daughter as a nod to the Notebooks for Anna Magdalena. Here, these pieces are performed by Lya De Barberiis, student of Alfredo Casella and Margeruite Long.
