John Lanchbery, Ferdinand Hérold
The story of La fille mal gardée is a complex one: this ballet has known lots of distinct versions throughout its history! This version recorded by Barry Wordsworth is a rework by John Lanchbery (including some of his own compositions) of the framework by Ferdinand Hérold, being itself a pot-pourri of hits of his time, including pieces by Rossini or Martini. Choreographed by Frederick Ashton, the Lanchbery version of the ballet was an incredible success when premiered in London in 1960.
