Camille Saint-Saëns, Francis Poulenc, Henri Dutilleux, Charles Koechlin, Eugène Bozza
Saint-Saëns’ oboe sonata initiated a cycle of three sonatas he dedicated to wind instruments in his final days. Both charming and virtuosic, this piece has become a standard of the oboe repertoire and inspired many French composers such as Francis Poulenc, also featured on this album recorded by Nicholas Daniel. Other composers included on this recording are Charles Koechlin, Henri Dutilleux and Eugène Bozza, a neo-classical composer mostly remembered for his wind chamber works.
