555… and counting! While musical historiography has adopted the easily rememberable figure of 555 official sonatas, as per the comprehensive catalogue established by Ralph Kirkpatrick, various other keyboard pieces found in manuscripts may be attributed to Domenico Scarlatti. Mayako Sone, selected a few of these pieces from collections in Barcelona (manuscripts once owned by Enrique Granados, who largely contributed to the renewal of Scaraltti’s music), Lisbon, Montserrat, Yale… to make us discover these lesser-known pieces. This album also includes an interesting alternate version of the Sonata in D major, Kk. 96 published in Paris by the Boivin Editions, and the (spurious) intoxicating Fandango from the Tenerife manuscript revised by Mayako Sone herself, in a hair-raising rendition!
