Following his previous albums 'BariTenor' and Contra-Tenor, Michael Spyres brings a new album that reveals the more intricate facets of Wagner's music and its origins.
In the Shadows explores what Spyres refers to as "a varying spectrum of emotions" as the album endevours to illuminate the composers who formed Wagner's style such as Myerbeer, Rossini, Bellini, Berlioz and more. Joining Spyres expidition into Wagner's music are the players of Les Talen Lyriques and conductor Christophe Rousset who are well established in the realms of historically informed performance.
"Wagner constantly pushed boundaries… That’s what all the composers on In the Shadows did – push the boundaries of knowledge and what is possible as an artist. My main goal with this album is to show people how different composers inspired Wagner and helped to make opera into the incredible art form that we know today.”
