Founder of a new genre: Between 1729 and 1740 Bach headed Leipzig’s Collegium Musicum, an ensemble founded by Telemann, and held concerts in Zimmermann’s Coffeehouse. It was then that he wrote seven concertos for keyboard and strings that made him a pioneer of one of the most significant genres in music history. At once virtuosic and melodious, his keyboard concertos are the ne plus ultra of Baroque instrumental music.
