Dvořák & Suk: Serenades

A pupil and stepson of Dvořák's, Josef Suk is one of the major representatives of the Bohemian late Romanticism and remains famous for his natural sense of melody, evident in such works as the Scherzo fantastique and the "Asrael" symphony.

His Serenade for Strings, here conducted by Christopher Warren-Green and coupled with his mentor’s famous work of the same name, is a ravishing youthful effort. The album also includes his fiery piano quartet, performed here along with other Czech masterpieces by the Domus ensemble.
