Released in 1995, the historical film England, My England featuring such acting personalities as Simon Callow and Michael Ball is a romanticized biography of Henry Purcell and the gaze he had on British society under the reign of Charles II. The soundtrack is made of original recordings by specialist John Eliot Gardiner, and obviously highlights Purcell’s masterworks such as King Arthur, the Funeral Music for Queen Mary, and the trumpet sonata.
