Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Turina, Xavier Montsalvatge
With Alicia de Larrocha’s centenary upcoming, we focus on her fantastic Hispavox and EMI Spain recordings devoted to Spanish music, of which she has been a fiery advocate throughout her career. We release a recording ‒ featuring the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra ‒ of Catalan composer Montsalvatge’s Concierto breve (whose she was the dedicatee when it premiered in 1953), very much inspired by Stravinsky and modern French music. This album comes with a collection of modern pieces by Andalusian composers Turina and Falla, with transcriptions of his famous dances from La vida breve, El amor brujo and El sombrero de tres picos.
