Founded in 1987, Bang on a Can is a musicians’ collective devoted the promotion of American contemporary music, through famous extended duration performances called the Marathon Concerts, or international tours with its All-Stars sextet. In 2000, its artistic directors (the three composers David Lang, Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe) collaborated on an innovative scenic oratorio questioning notions of memory and loss, called Lost Objects. Meant for choir, soprano, countertenors and baroque ensemble, this unidentified musical object is emblematic of American post-modernism.
This recording is performed by an electric quartet from Bang on a Can alongside Concerto Köln, a baroque orchestra on period instruments, and the RIAS Kammerchor. It also includes remixes by DJ Spooky.
