Il Gardellino - Vivaldi: Flötenkonzerte (Inspiration)

As in the Venetian maestro’s famous Four Seasons, we encounter in his flute concertos Vivaldi’s unsurpassed talent to portray in music living images and scenes. In the La Notte concerto spectral beings (“fantasmi”) haunt the night-time lagoons of his home city; in Tempesta di mare the composer takes us through a musical tempest and in the famous Gardellino he lets us listen to the goldfinch, whose call provides the concerto’s main motif – enchanting Baroque music full of sparkling musical ideas.
