The name of John Lanchbery is closely associated with the world of classical ballet. The British-Australian conductor spent his whole musical career in charge of the most influential ballet companies, and was also appointed to write many arrangements for ballet creations in collaboration with such choreographers as Frederick Ashton or Kenneth MacMillan.
Here, he conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Messager’s Two Pigeons, a lovely score inspired by a fable of Jean de La Fontaine, very rarely put on record despite its undisputable delicacy.
