Smetana: Polkas

Despite being mostly remembered for his operas and tone poems, Smetana was also central in the development of a Czech romantic literature for the piano. Riding the wave of the polka’s popularity boom in mid-19th-century’s salons, and an excellent dancer himself, he composed dozens of polkas, the best of which have been gathered in this splendid album by András Schiff.
