Otto Klemperer had a particular connection with Bruckner, as it is mostly thanks to this music that he rose to fame in the 1920s, after a very successful series of international concerts. The recording of the fifth and the sixth symphonies was a major discographic event back in the 1960s, particularly as the latter were very much unknown back in the days, due to the lack of recorded versions available. Klemperer’s version filled a long-standing gap and still remains a reference nowadays.
