Victoria de los Ángeles was a devoted advocate of the music from her native land. She recorded many albums of rarely performed Spanish repertoire, from Renaissance villancicos to folkloric tunes. This collection, sung under the baton of her fellow countryman Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, focuses on modern melodies with orchestra, such as the early music inspired Madrigales amatorios of Joaquín Rodrigo, Montsalvatge’s Canciones negras after music from the Spanish West Indies, or famous vocal pieces from Falla’s La vida breve and El sombrero de tres picos.
