A very light and sparse piece with an ambiguous undertone that captures the evening and night at the workshop.
On a circulating four-chord progression a very sensitive and beautiful melody evolves and takes shape over the course of the piece. The ambiguity of the piece originates in the nature of the chords: we never hear the chords in root position but always in their first invasion which gives the chords an uneasiness and never lets them resolve.
In March 2022, Carlos Cipa visited the famous piano manufacturing workshop „Klangmanufaktur“ in Hamburg to play and record on one of their incredibly beautiful instruments. They collect old and worn-out sometimes unplayable Steinway grand pianos and completely restore them to make them once more a perfect concert instrument.
Excited about discovering these idiosyncratic instruments, Cipa decided to compose and record two songs in the workshop. He performed these pieces in on „KM133“, a recently restored Steinway C grand piano built in 1925.
