Franck: Symphony in D Minor

Constantin Silvestri is a somehow forgotten figure nowadays but was a very important composer and conductor, perhaps the most influential Romanian musician after Dinu Lipatti and George Enescu. In the 1950s his talent was noticed by EMI, for whom he became one of the figureheads, excelling in the romantic repertoire. This symphony of César Franck is an indisputable example of Silvestri’s talent.
