Artista protagonista:
Daniel Harding, Mahler Chamber Orchestra
This disc of Cello Concertos is Gautier Capuçon’s (Renaud’s younger brother) first recording as solo cellist on Erato. He is accompanied by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Harding. Harding will take over as Musical Director of the orchestra in September 2003.
Joseph Haydn composed two cello concertos: the C major around 1765 and the D major in 1783. Long thought lost, the Concerto in C was rediscovered in 1961 by a Czech musicologist. Both of these concertos explore the instrument’s possibilities and have extremely virtuoso passages. Concerto in D major was long attributed to Haydn but today is considered to be of unknown authorship.
