György Ligeti, Jean-Pierre Guézec, André Boucourechliev
March 9th: we are commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Jean-Pierre Guézec’s passing, at the young age of 36. He was a very original figure and his death was a great loss for contemporary French music. First linked to Pierre Boulez, he later developed his own very personal language, much inspired by the pictorial techniques of Mondrian and Vasarely, focusing on what he called “sound color”.
Successif-simultané for twelve string instruments was premiered in 1969 by Louis Auriacombe and recorded the year later by the same conductor. It is one of the very rare recordings of Guézec available. It is coupled with other works for string ensemble by Ligeti and Boucourechliev.
