Here is a throwback to one of the earliest recordings ever made by Michel Corboz: a pioneering version of the Vespro della Beata Vergine. It was recorded to pay homage to Monteverdi for his 400th birthday, at a time when the discography of his catalogue was still fragmentary. Hearing Monteverdi’s music was Corboz’s first profound aesthetic experience and shaped his career, making him a true trailblazer of Venetian early music. This rendition is an absolute milestone and features a host of remarkable soloists (Hughes Cuénod, Philippe Huttenlocher, Éric Tappy).
