Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Triebensee
November 21st marks the 250th birthday of Joseph Triebensee. An excellent oboist (he premiered Beethoven’s quintet for piano and winds and Mozart’s Magic Flute), he was also a noted composer for wind ensemble who specialized in transcriptions of trendy tunes from contemporary operas and ballets. His most famous legacy remains the witty, exquisite arrangement for wind octet of Don Giovanni. Mark Minkowski’s version with his Musiciens du Louvre is a very original way to rediscover these famous arias with a new ear.
