Dimitri Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky
Here is a selection of emblematic modern chamber works for viola performed by Tabea Zimmermann, perhaps the most renowned figure of her instrument. Recorded with Hartmut Höll, it includes Britten’s set of variations on a song by Dowland Lachrymae, Shostakovich’s sonata (his last completed composition), and an elegy composed by Stravinsky in honor of Belgian violinist Alphonse Onnou.
