Love of the Orient: Mozart was a brilliant pianist who wrote numerous sonatas to show off his prowess. This recording features two rousing and lyrical works alongside his famous Sonata No. 11, containing the “Rondo alla turca”, inspired by the music of the Turkish Janissaries, which was very popular in Mozart’s day: thanks to its oriental tone colours, the lively, stirring movement was very popular among the composer’s contemporaries and remains one of the piano literature’s most popular pieces to this day.
